A Brand That Inspires

A Brand That Inspires

If you would have told me a year ago that a car brand would be a life changing motivator, I would have told you that you were crazy. Since immersing myself in the Land Rover brand, I have found it to be so much more than just a vehicle.  Rather a true extension of an adventurous lifestyle.  The History of Land Rover and its dedicated followers really caught my attention. So many seemingly ordinary people taking what started as a farm truck on epic ventures. I read about people like Barbara Toy who took her Series I, Pollyanna, on solo excursions through Africa, the Middle East, across Asia, and even around the world. Later reading an article on Bristol Foster and Robert Bateman being reunited with their long-lost Grizzly Torque, a 1957 ambulance built by Land Rover, that had been lost for decades somewhere in Can ... read more

"New" Defender SWB Spyshots

"New" Defender SWB Spyshots

New spy shots of a SWB (short wheel base) Defender test mule have prompted me to write down some of my thoughts on what the "new" Defender will and won't be.  First off, It is pretty clear that we should be expecting an independent suspension in any & all new products from Land Rover. While I personally lament the loss of solid axles under the new Defender, I understand the move by Land Rover doing so as it will allow enhanced drivability in all but the most extreme terrain. Yet, when matched with the amazing traction control system developed by Land Rover it will still surpass solid axles even in extreme terrain. The drawbacks are more related to the Series & Defender purists and those looking for major lift and build modifications to the vehicle, but we can rest assured that there will be individuals, shops, and manufacturers that will come to our aid in turning the new Defender into an off road beast. Be it i ... read more

Perentie adventures – March ’17

 Perentie adventures – March ’17

Since late 2016, I’ve been working on importing an Australian Land Rover Perentie 6×6. As you may recall, we had a customer bring one in earlier in 2016, and I was pretty enamored with the vehicle. So after more research on the Perentie, I decided that the 6×6 flat bed variant would be perfect for us, as it is the only Perentie that comes with the turbocharged 3.9l Isuzu engine, and would be a great platform for any future modifications or use. Not only did I get the Perentie as a cool shop and marketing vehicle, but going through the importing process is part of the knowledge I need for our shop expansion into vehicle sales as I am hoping to bring more of these great and unique Rovers to the states. Here’s some more information from Wikipedia one the Land Rover Perentie. So, after months of waiting (th ... read more

Rover Riders inaugural run 2016 – Mosquito Pass & Half Moon Creek

Rover Riders inaugural run 2016 – Mosquito Pass & Half Moon Creek

I’ve been wanting to put together an off-road trip for quite a while, and it finally came together with a little push from a long time customer. Thanks Dirk! Ok, I’m going to back up a second and explain why the name “Rover Riders” in the title. The Rover Riders were a club and group of Land Rover off-road enthusiasts that was started many years ago. That club was absorbed by the Solihull Society, the other and still current Land Rover club in Colorado, and the name was lost. I thought the name too cool to let go, and while I have no plans to create another (or competing) club, it was perfect to put it to use as a Facebook group This trip is the 1st time I created an event in that group, and invited some friends and customers of the shop. So it came to pass, that on Saturday July 23rd, 2016, our group of 8 vehicles gathered at JC’s British & 4×4 to head out for some high altitude adventure ... read more

Undercarriage Protection

Undercarriage Protection

I thought I’d share my beliefs regarding undercarriage vehicle protection. – Body protection and “rock sliders” will be covered in another post. Basically the way I see it undercarriage protection falls into 3 general categories: Skid Plates/Guards – which generally cover an area & multiple components Individual component guards – as the name implies, this guard covers just the “one” component that is vulnerable Component Upgrades – for strength & durability Overall, I prefer to avoid skid plates and guards where I feel they are either excessive or have limited benefit. Therefor I tend to prefer component upgrades and individual component guards whenever possible. Below is a bullet point list of some of my thoughts. Pro’s to skid plates & guards: Relatively easy install Designed for “bolt in” installatio ... read more

A unique Defender comes to JC’s British & 4×4

A unique Defender comes to JC’s British & 4×4

This week, we had the rare opportunity to see and work on an imported Australian Military Defender often know as a Land Rover Perentie. It was in for a fuel tank replacement as the original had sprung a leak, luckily for us the owner had already sourced the replacement as we are not familiar with this Rover variant and what parts are the same as NAS (North American Stock) vehicles or other ROW (Rest Of World) vehicles. Our customer is working to import more of these vehicles, so hopefully we will continue to see more of them as the options seem very well planned in my opinion. Here’s an excerpt from Wikipedia on the model: The Land Rover Perentie is a nickname for the Land Rover 110 produced by JRA Limited for the Australian Army, and part manufactured and assembled in Moorebank, New South Wales, during the 1980s and 1990s. There were two build contracts. The first was in 1988 and the second ... read more

Tech Tips To quote John Snow from Game of Thrones “Winter is coming” Yup, I’m writing this now in the middle of Summer, because as we all know Winter can come quick and hard to Colorado. Here in Colorado winter is much different than other areas of the country, the high altitude and dry air make everything more extreme. Daily temperature swings are often 30-40 degrees, humi ... read more

Shop Info and Tech Tips – April 08

News An India based company called Tata has acquired Land Rover & Jaguar from Ford Motors, announced in March, the sale price was about $2.3billion. Only time will tell how this will affect the marquee, but they did get backing from both Rover & Jaguar workers unions, and have said they will hold true to tradition. In Feb 08, I’ve brought back my apprentice (Drew Wheeler) from my 1st year of running the shop, I had been trying to get him back on occasion over the last year or so, and finally he agreed to leave Corvettes Only to rejoin us here. Tech Tips With most vehicles, running the recommended octane gas will maximize performance and gas mileage. This is due to multiple engine sensors and programming that can make use of that octane rating. But, many customers ask us if their vehicles require that higher octane rating, and the answer is really no. Those same sensors & programming allow yo ... read more
