JC’s has just launched our new website, we hope you find it useful and well laid out. Owner Jeff Corwin has recently returned from Peterson’s 4 Wheel & Off-Road’s, Ultimate Adventure 2015. Jeff is one of 6 magazine readers invited to this event, and the 1st Land Rover invited since the adventures inception in 1999. Look for an in depth article chronicling Jeff, and co-driver Chris’s adventures.

Tech Tips

To quote John Snow from Game of Thrones “Winter is coming” Yup, I’m writing this now in the middle of Summer, because as we all know Winter can come quick and hard to Colorado.

Here in Colorado winter is much different than other areas of the country, the high altitude and dry air make everything more extreme. Daily temperature swings are often 30-40 degrees, humidity can change nearly as much as a storm rolls through, and UV light can burn you while you freeze. These things affect your car as well as you.

So a few thoughts to protect you and your vehicle.

  1. Sunscreen is always a good idea, and many newer car waxes have a UV protectant built in. While most clear coat paint jobs are very UV stable, as little extra protection will help longevity, and any decals or pin-striping that are above the clear coat.
  2. Have your cooling system checked: Proper coolant mixtures are a mix of anti-freezing and anti-boiling agents, with lubricants for moving parts in the cooling system as well.
  3. Speaking of cooling systems, your A/C system is needed year round too: The A/C system not only cools hot summer air, but also removes excess moisture from the air in the winter and helps keep windows from frosting over.
  4. Check your tires before the snow fall: Are your tires ready for the snow? Grab a penny and check the tire tread depth. You want 2/32” or more, which is about the distance from the top of Lincoln’s head to the edge of the penny. Measure from the lowest point in the tire tread to the height of a tread block.

Have a happy and safe winter,

Jeffrey Corwin
