Since late 2016, I’ve been working on importing an Australian Land Rover Perentie 6×6. As you may recall, we had a customer bring one in earlier in 2016, and I was pretty enamored with the vehicle. So after more research on the Perentie, I decided that the 6×6 flat bed variant would be perfect for us, as it is the only Perentie that comes with the turbocharged 3.9l Isuzu engine, and would be a great platform for any future modifications or use. Not only did I get the Perentie as a cool shop and marketing vehicle, but going through the importing process is part of the knowledge I need for our shop expansion into vehicle sales as I am hoping to bring more of these great and unique Rovers to the states. Arapahoe Search & Rescue, The Arapahoe Rescue Patrol is a search and rescue team based in Arapahoe County, Colorado. Composed entirely of young adults currently in high school, the members of the Patrol have provided “free search, rescue, and emergency services for the citizens of Colorado’s front range and throughout all of Colorado since 1957.” Set Them Free, Inc. is a non-profit fund raising organization created for the purpose of funding the rescue and rehabilitation of victims of human trafficking. It’s finally happening! JC’s British & 4×4 expansion has begun. It’s been nearly two years in the works, but construction has finally commenced on the building next door to our current service location. This project will allow us to expand our services offered to include used vehicle sales, accessory sales, and custom outfitting. JC’s has been working with two great companies, Rouge Architecture and Musick Built to plan out and remodel the building. The new facility will more than double our shop and parking space, and offer a large front showroom for vehicles and accessories. While construction will take most of 2017, I’m really excited to be able to offer more to our great customers in the future. Jeff C

I’ve been wanting to put together an off-road trip for quite a while, and it finally came together with a little push from a long time customer. Thanks Dirk! Ok, I’m going to back up a second and explain why the name “Rover Riders” in the title. The Rover Riders were a club and group of Land Rover off-road enthusiasts that was started many years ago. That club was absorbed by the Solihull Society, the other and still current Land Rover club in Colorado, and the name was lost. I thought the name too cool to let go, and while I have no plans to create another (or competing) club, it was perfect to put it to use as a Facebook group This trip is the 1st time I created an event in that group, and invited some friends and customers of the shop. Did you know that your engine can be overheating with you even knowing it! Yes, that's potentially true – and can have dire consequences. Here's why, for a coolant sensor to be accurate, it must have coolant flowing past it. If you have a coolant leak or complete loss of coolant, your coolant temperature sensor and therefore gauge will not react properly. In the winter there are often some simple signs that your coolant is low, particularly you often will notice that your heater is not blowing hot air. But come summer, that little warning of no heat from your vents goes unnoticed, pair that with running the A/C which pumps even more heat into the engine, and you can have catastrophic engine failure come up faster than you realize. Coming from another well respected Land rover specialty shop, Rover Doctor in Irvine CA, where he cut his teeth in the Land Rover world over the last 6 years. Jordan also completed an Associates of Science degree in Automotive Technology in 2015 from Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, CA. I thought I’d share my beliefs regarding undercarriage vehicle protection. – Body protection and “rock sliders” will be covered in another post. Basically the way I see it undercarriage protection falls into 3 general categories: Skid Plates/Guards – which generally cover an area & multiple components Individual component guards – as the name implies, this guard covers just the “one” component that is vulnerable Component Upgrades – for strength & durability Overall, I prefer to avoid skid plates and guards where I feel they are either excessive or have limited benefit. This week, we had the rare opportunity to see and work on an imported Australian Military Defender often know as a Land Rover Perentie. It was in for a fuel tank replacement as the original had sprung a leak, luckily for us the owner had already sourced the replacement as we are not familiar with this Rover variant and what parts are the same as NAS (North American Stock) vehicles or other ROW (Rest Of World) vehicles. Our customer is working to import more of these vehicles, so hopefully we will continue to see more of them as the options seem very well planned in my opinion. We here at JC’s British & 4×4 have started to see a trend regarding heating issues on LR3s and Range Rover Sports. This trend has been an issue with heater core blockage and uneven heat coming from the vents. Oddly as the blockage increases it does not evenly reduce the heater core temps from all vents, but lowers the Driver’s side temps dramatically while the passenger side appears to be unaffected. This problem leads many shops and technicians toward replacing the control servos, which in most cases solves nothing. To replace the heater core is a very large and time consuming job, the entire dash assembly has to be removed. We have had some success power flushing the heater core with our Gates Power Flush cooling tool. The magazine issue for Perterson’s 4 Wheel & Off-Road’s, Ultimate Adventure 2015 has come out on the newsstands. And I’m very happy with the coverage our Rover has gotten.
